The President of American Samoa's Chamber of Commerce says he hopes all businesses in the territory take part in an economic census.

Officials of the US Census Bureau will conduct the survey of businesses and the economic activity in the territory.

The first such assessment was in 2002.

American Samoa's Chamber of Commerce President, David Robinson, says the last census had raised a few concerns as some businesses were not sure whether the informationn would be kept confidential.

He says that lead to a number of businesses not taking part - however he hopes that will change this year.

"So we need to encourage as many people as possible to participate and make them comfortable and confident in the fact that whatever information they do provide it will be kept confidential."

Mr Robinson says the information collected will be beneficial in the long term.
