Cooks workers seek ruling on COLA payments

3:27 pm on 17 September 2007

The Cook Islands Workers Association is preparing to seek legal clarification in court on the cost of living adjustments or COLA payments.

The Association's president, Anthony Turua, says the process in which the cost of living adjustment or COLA payments are made is confusing and while some people are being paid, others are still missing out.

Mr Turua says a recent meeting with the government also found that some Cabinet Ministers did not understand how the process worked, despite the decision on the current COLA application coming from Cabinet.

Mr Turua says despite the meeting nothing has been done.

"The Union wants to see further clarification from our legal party to see whether the government is on the right track."

He says the COLA payments should go to all the concerned workers.
