In a government incentive, rolled out before the Games, each gold medal was valued at around 850 US dollars or about 2 thousand Samoan tala
Samoa won 43 gold, seven short of its goal.
Stand out winners were the Opeloge family, with its three weightlifters picking up three gold each, and track star, Aunese Curreen, who won three gold in the 800, 1500 and 5,000 metres.
