Sacked top Homeland Security official in American Samoa seeks reinstatement

The former director of the American Samoa Office of Homeland Security, Leiataua Birdsall Alailima, has filed a legal complaint over his removal and is seeking reinstatement on full pay.

Leiataua was laid off along with a number of other staff when the US Department of Homeland Security froze funding.

Leiataua wants the courts to declare this move null and void.

He argues that the Fono had not established the new department by law and government procedures for implementing redundancies were not followed.
