Russell Islands Plantation Estate Limited in Solomon Islands threatens legal action

10:19 am on 25 July 2007

The Russell Islands Plantation Estate Limited or RIPEL has threatened to take legal action against unauthorised people harvesting copra and cocoa from the company's plantations in Solomon Islands.

The company's lawyer, Gabriel Suri, says people doing so are committing a criminal offence.

Mr Suri told the SIBC, the only people allowed to engage in the production and sale of copra and cocoa are those authorised by the company.

He has warned local ship owners and their crew against engaging in trading activities by transporting stolen agricultural products to Honiara.

RIPEL says it will seek a High Court injunction if people are found to be engaged in loading stolen goods.
