Samoa government moves to improve power supply

6:58 am on 4 July 2007

The Samoa government says it is speeding up the process of constructing a new electric power plant to improve supply in the country, with minimal environmental impact.

The Electric Power Corporation or EPC would not give reporters further information but the government has approved negotiations between the EPC and Man Diesel Company from Australia.

The announcement comes after the government ended negotiations with the village councils of Sili and Gataivai over a proposed hydro power plant on Savaii.
