The Commission of Inquiry into Papua New Guinea's Department of Finance has been disbanded.

The Post Courier newspaper reports that all public servants on the inquiry have been directed to immediately return to their departments and contracts for recruited lawyers and investigators have been terminated.

Only the chairman of the commission of inquiry has been asked to remain.

The inquiry, which was set up to investigate massive corruption within the Department of Finance uncovered millions of kina had been paid out illegally and through questionable means.
