Solomons Development Trust calls for small business training for villagers

The Solomon Islands Development Trust says the new government small business finance scheme should offer business training for villagers.

The government will on Friday launch a small business finance scheme that will provide loans for people wanting to start up small businesses in rural areas.

The development trust's Jennifer Wate welcomes the initiative, but adds training and marketing skills should be part of the package.

Ms Wate says organisations working on the grass root level could provide such training.

"There are some non-governmental organisations that are assisting villages in the training and the government should try and work closely with the non governmental organisations who are already working with the villagers."

Jennifer Wate says that way villagers will be able to sustain their small businesses.
