A New Zealand journalist Michael Field has arrived back in New Zealand after being detained by the Fiji military.

Mr Field, who works for the Fairfax media company, was put into custody when he arrived in Nadi last night.

He says he was told he was on the banned list, which he did not know existed.

A member of the Pacific Islands News Association has expressed concern about his detention.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark says Fiji has refused visas for two police officers who planned to travel to Suva to provide security for the expelled New Zealand High Commissioner Michael Green.
