The latest information from the U.S. State Department indicates that the adoption of so-called orphans from Samoa reached its highest level in 2003.

The State Department says figures based on recent U.S. immigrant visa statistics show 47 were allocated in 2003 for parentless children from Samoa.

These statistics are part of the federal government's inter-country adoption notice as a reminder of current regulations for U.S. citizens seeking to adopt children from foreign countries.

The figures show none was adopted last year.
