World Championship Tour surfing officials have decided to extend an event in the hope of getting better waves.
The Billabong Pro in Tahiti has been postponed for two days when a swell of two to three metres is expected for the quarter-finals and beyond.
Contest director, Luke Egan, says the dredging left hand barrels of Teahupoo have played a big part in the race for the world championship in past years and the eight remaining surfers voted for the best possible conditions.
The event was due to end today.
The only other time an extension has been granted was a half-day at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, in 1996.
