Fiji International Telecommunications Limited (FINTEL) has confirmed that it is holding discussions with the military to block anti-military websites.
Fiji's Land Force commander, Colonel Pita Driti, has told the Sunday Times FINTEL has provided options on how to block the websites which he says are "full of lies, deception and agitation".
Col Driti has named the websites as "resistfrankscoup, intelligensiya and fijishamelist."
FINTEL's manager corporate affairs, Sam Samuta, says websites are prone to abuse because Fiji lacks updated Internet laws.
Mr Samuta says "technology in Fiji is way ahead but the laws are 10 to 20 years behind which is why there is rubbish on the blogs."
Meanwhile, an indigenous Fijian business man who operates an IT company, Ulai Taoi, says he was detained and beaten up by the military to secure information about anti-military websites.
He says just before his release Col Driti came into his cell and after discussions and a prayer they shared, they shook hands and parted on good terms.
Mr Taoi says he will lodge a compliant with the police and the Fiji Human Rights Commission sometime this week or next
