The Papua New Guinea police commander, Gari Baki, says moving two thousand staff around in the Highlands during the elections next month will be a logistical nightmare
The police are being put in after widespread violence at the last election in 2002 led to the poll in several Southern Highlands electorates being called off.
A series of rolling elections are to be held, with the aim to hold those in Enga and Southern in a single day.
Commissioner Baki says it is manageable and with the commitment of the government to ensuring the first election under Limited Preferential Voting is a success, he is confident they will be able to move the officers around quickly.
"I am confident that with the current arrangements we will be able to get these people on time. Yes we will fly them , we will fly them into the first locations where they will be deployed and from there onwards, we will be using helicopters and fixed wing to move them base location and then helicopters to into isolated areas."
