Solomons government to begin seizing misused vehicles

10:53 am on 7 May 2007

The Solomon Islands Government is to start seizing vehicles from government officers who are unauthorised to be in possession its cars.

Under the currrent system, only government ministers, permanent secretaries, and executives of essential services such as doctors, aviation and meteorology officers are entitled to use government vehicles.

The Infrastructure Minister, Stanley Sofu, says at the moment, no one is abiding by the current system resulting in a high number of government vehicles being damaged.

He says the government has had three brand new vehicles badly damaged.

Mr Sofu says the move has been prompted by complaints from tax payers.
