Samoan policewoman allegedly raped after work function

A Samoan policewoman has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department, accusing a fellow policeman of raping her after a social function.

A police source says the alleged offence occurred last week during a party where several senior and junior police officers were celebrating a new supply of musical instruments donated by an Australian music instructor for the police band.

Police are yet to file a charge in connection with the alleged rape as investigations are still being carried out.

The investigation is led by the assistant police commissioner, Papali'i Li'o, who also headed last year's inquiry into an alleged car accident involving the police commissioner.

The inquiry cleared the commissioner because of lack of evidence.
