2:20 pm on 27 April 2007

Energy ministers from around the Pacific have endorsed the need for an intergrated approach to the development of the energy sector in the region.

A two day conference in Rarotonga brought together energy ministers from across the Pacific to discuss energy issues.

The sustainability development advisor for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Dr Padua Lal, says they've agreed energy policy must be implemented at sector level.

"Ministers have noted that they need to strengthen the energy sector planning and in particular the energy sector plans need to be prioritisd and explicitly linked to the national planning and budgetory process."

Dr Padua Lal says in the past, a number of activities have been carried out, but not co-ordinated in a systematic manner.
