The Solomon islands minister of finance, Gordon Darcy Lilo, says the number of public vehicles involved in road accidents has reached a worrying rate and will no longer be tolerated.

He warned the number of accidents is alarming and that public officers must be held accountable.

Mr Lilo says inadequate control by successive administrations has contributed to a worrying rate of carelessness and abuse of government vehicles and properties.

He says those damaging vehicles include three cabinet ministers have damaged their official vehicles which cost the government a total of 100,000 US dollars.

He says those who damaged the vehicles will be made to pay for the repairs.
