Summit in Tonga on recovery strategies due to get underway

11:00 am on 16 April 2007

A national summit focusing on the challenges to Tonga's immediate recovery is due to get underway today.

The aim of the summit is for government and participants to formulate strategies that would assist and ensure that a strong, vibrant, and competitive private sector is built for the enhancement of economic growth.

The Tonga Now government site says the summit will comprise seven sessions, each with a panel discussion to determine appropriate resolutions.

The Ministry is encouraging participation and support from the public in what it envisages will be beneficial to Tonga's current economic recovery and development plans.
