Samoan cruise ship workers told to set good example

10:19 am on 10 April 2007

Samoa's deputy prime minister, Misa Telefoni, has urged nine Samoans hired by a cruise ship in Europe to maintain godly behaviour so that others could get the same employment opportunities as them.

The nine have been hired to work as crewmen on the ship MSC Orchestra which belongs to the Italian company, Mediterranean Shipping.

Misa says talks are in progress for workers from Samoa to be hired in the hotel section of the cruiseship.

But he says the success of those talks depends on the behaviour of the Samoan seafarers.

Misa says ill-discipline is a factor that has caused Samoan seamen to be returned home.
