Tropical cyclone Cliff threatens Fiji's north

A tropical cyclone has formed north of Fiji and is headed past Vanua Levu.

Tropical cyclone Cliff is only kilometres north east of the island of Taveuni.

A gale warning is in force for eastern Vanua Levu, Taveuni and the Lau group of islands.

The storm has momentary gusts of 100 kilometres per hour, bringing widespread heavy rain.

Forecasters warn of sea flooding of low-lying areas as the cyclone is moving south-southeast.
