A Papua New Guinea member of parliament has been implicated in an alleged rape attempt in a hotel room in Port Moresby.

The MP from Oro province was alleged to have tried to rape a young woman after she was allegedly lured to meet the MP by another person, on the premise the MP would help the victim pay her school fees.

Instead, it was alleged that the MP drove the young woman to the hotel and proceeded to a room where he allegedly made several advances to touch her sexually but she refused and fended him off.

The Central police commander Alfred Reu told the National newspaper that a complaint was filed with police last Friday.

He says police officers and the sexual offences squad are looking into the allegations, which the victim says took place on March the 13th.
