Solomons Water Authority vows to solve shortages

6:13 pm on 23 March 2007

The Solomon Islands Water Authority, or SIWA, says it wants to solve the country's water shortages after fierce public protests.

The Solomon Star reports that the public has raised concern over the quality and availability of urban water services.

SIWA's General Manager, John Waki, says it is trying to address the issue and hopes to see results within the next two years.

Mr Waki says there is enough water for the urban population but the necessary infrastructure is costly.

He says the company will need financial support from the government and foreign donors.
