Visitors to Samoa rose by almost 14 percent in 2006, according to the latest figures released by the South Pacific Tourism Industry.

An extra 14,075 tourists visited Samoa in 2006, taking the yearly numbers up from 101,807 in 2005 to 115,882 in 2006.

The SPTO says it was the biggest visitor increase in the South Pacific.

The CEO of the Samoa Hotel Association Nynette Sass, says

that Polynesian Blue's non-stop services to Auckland six times a week and Sydney three times a week have helped.

Ms Sass said political unrest and natural disasters have drastically reduced tourism numbers to some countries.
