American Samoan Speech Festival called off

3:27 pm on 23 February 2007

The American Samoa Department of Education has canceled this year's Secondary Speech Festival, an annual event showcasing the talents of the local students in areas as diverse as poetry reading, oral interpretation, original speech, and theatrical activities.

The education director, Dr. Claire Poumele, says the postponement is due to numerous ongoing activities the students will be involved in around March and April.

These include important testing activities, preparations for accreditation to both Samoana and Manu'a high schools and a range of Flag Day activities.
