Solomons Speaker takes legal action to secure appointment of Ombudsman

The Speaker of the Solomon Islands parliament, Sir Peter Kenilorea has launched legal proceedings against the attorney general and the governor general over their failure to appoint a new Ombudsman.

Sir Peter says he has turned to the courts after the governor general failed to follow the recommendations of a select panel set up to choose the new ombudsman.

Sir Peter, the country's first prime minister and a former governor general, says he hopes to set things right by going to the courts.
