Solomons parliament told to expect new moves to topple government

9:56 am on 14 February 2007

Solomons Finance Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo has told parliament he is aware of plans to topple the Coalition for Change Government led by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

He said this while winding up debate on the 2007 budget in Parliament yesterday.

Mr Lilo said while MPs from both sides of the house spoke in support of the budget, he was aware there was a plan to move a no confidence motion against the Sogavare government, although he would not say when or who would move it.

The parliament passed the budget in its second reading and a fuller debate on it will be held today.

Meanwhile, it's understood cabinet ministers and backbenchers have been meeting a number of opposition MPs seeking their support if the no confidence motion is moved.
