The chairman of Transparency Solomon Islands, Bob Pollard, says it's an abuse of office for the acting attorney general, Nuatali Tongarutu, to have attempted to drop two cases against a government minister and her brother.
Mr Pollard says it represents a serious interference in the judicial and legal system and Mrs Tongarutu should not have put her personal and political interests ahead of those of the nation's.
The charges against government minister, Peter Shanel, have since been reinstated by the Director of Public Prosecutions but Mr Pollard says there needs to be an explanation as to why it happened.
"There's a series of actions that concern us; the most serious is the action by the acting attorney general to drop two cases. One was a case against a minister and the second was a case against her brother. And, so we believe this was a serious violation of the judicial system."
Mr Pollard says he understands there may be an investigation into alleged misconduct by Mrs Tongarutu.
The acting attorney general was unavailable for comment.
