Japanese company, Marukei Katsuobushi Company wants smoked tuna or Katsuobushi from Pacific Island nations and in particular, Papua New Guinea.

The Post Courier paper reports that a Japanese fact-finding mission to PNG said this last week.

Researchers from the Pacific Islands Centre or PIC were part of the team that came to the country.

A PIC senior market researcher says the feasibility study found PNG had an abundance of the raw material, the skip-jack tuna and suitable sites to set up operations such as Madang and Lae.
