Director of American Samoa's emergency management office sacked

10:36 am on 31 January 2007

The Director of American Samoa's Territorial Emergency Management Coordinating Office, Faamausili Pola, has been relieved of his duties.

Two members of the cabinet say Governor Togiola made the announcement yesterday afternoon.

Two people are named to take over Faamausili's duties, deputy director Evelyn Stevenson and former Representative Olo Tagovailoa Ropati .

Olo is understood to have met yesterday with the governor.

The removal of Faamausili comes on the heels of a notice received last week from the US Department of Homeland Security that federal funding for both TEMCO and the Territorial Ofice for Homeland Security were on the verge of being discontinued because of a host of accountability issues.
