Cook Islands and Fiji women have taken the top prizes in the 2006 SPREP and PINA Environmental Media Awards.

The Cook Islands Times reports that the news director of Cook Islands Television, Nanette Woonton won the award for best environmental journalism on television.

And Fiji journalist Vasemaca Rarabici won the print media award for a feature published in the Fiji Sunday Times newspaper.

The student prize went to Fiji's Sakiasi Nawaikama.

SPREP says the selection of the winners was a tough job for the judging panel.
