Fiji police chief says country getting dangerously close to another coup

Fiji's police chief says the country is getting dangerously close to a coup.

Andrew Hughes says there is little he can do as the army reserve is called up and small groups of soldiers are patrolling the streets of Suva.

Mr Hughes says the chances of negotiating a settlement of the stand off with Commodore Bainimarama are not great.

"He has thumbed his nose at just about every element of society here. He has thumbed his nose at the diplomatic community, his overseas counterparts - it's mind boggling."
