A Fiji businessman has been arrested and charged with plotting to blow up Nadi International Airport with dynamite in August 1999 when the Chaudhry government had come into power.

Watisoni Nata, the brother of treason convict Josefa Nata and sacked managing director of Strategic Air Services Limited, is also facing charges of inciting three people to burn down the house of a trade unionist.

Mr Nata has appeared in the Nadi magistrate's court and pleaded not guilty to charges of inciting to destroy property using explosives and inciting arson.

He has been released on bail provided he observes a nightly curfew, does not interfere with state witnesses and does not go within 100 metres of Nadi International.

Police say his accomplices are expected to be charged with similar offences soon.
