Tongan police confirm six died in fire during last night's riot

Police in Tonga have confirmed that six people were killed in a fire during yesterday's riots in Nuku'alofa.

The police commander, Sinilau Kolokihakaufisi, says police found the bodies while they were cleaning up burnt debris of the headquarters of Shoreline and Tonfon companies.

Radio Tonga says they're believed to be the first known casualty of last night's violence.

Dr.'Akanesi Makakaufaki of Vaiola Hospital says the remains of the six are at the morgue.

According to Dr. Makakaufaki, the bodies are presumed to be of those who were involved in destroying and torching the premises.
