The American Samoa government owned 9 passenger seater aircraft has been grounded for more than a week due to the lack of a pilot.

The Samoa News reports that aircraft mechanic and pilot Michael Tennant has resigned after having been on the job for eight months.

The newspaper says the resignation was primarily due to the lack of cooperation on the government's part in ensuring speedy emergency medical evacuation flights between the main island of Tutuila and the Manu'a Island group.

According to the newspaper, Mr Tennant had previously held two meetings with the governor to discuss a long list of his concerns.
