PNG Government to invest millions in coffee industry

Papua New Guinea's National Agriculture Development plan will accommodate plans for the revitalisation of the Coffee Industry Corporation's services, from 2007.

The CIC chief executive officer Ricky Mitio told The National newspaper that the Government would invest a total of

61 million US dollars into the coffee industry under the plan over the next five years.

He was correcting remarks made at the weekend's opening of a coffee factory in Enga, accusing the government of neglecting the CIC over the years.

Coffee extension services were scaled down over the past few years largely due to lack of funding.
