Foster claims he was assaulted by Fiji police

Australia fraudster Peter Foster claims he was assaulted by Fiji police during his capture this week.

Mr Foster's lawyer Mehboob Raza says he would lodge a complaint against police over the matter.

Mr Raza visited Mr Foster at Suva's Colonial War Memorial hospital today and says the fugitive had run from police on Wednesday because he was scared.

Mr Foster is being treated for a head wound police say was caused by a boat propeller after the Australian dived into a river to avoid capture.

The police have agreed to Foster spending the weekend under guard at the hospital to fully recuperate before they question him.

Mr Foster is suspected of fraudulently obtaining loans from Micronesia, attempting to discredit the developer of a Fiji resort, and immigration violations.
