The Solomon Islands police commissioner Shane Castles is planning to take legal action over what he says is an attempt by the Solomon Islands government to constructively dismiss him.
There were reports last week Mr Castles had been sacked by the government but he says that was not the case.
But Mr Castles says a supposedly confidential letter from the police minister that his pay was being cut, was widely circulated by the government.
Mr Castles says they appear to be trying to test his loyalty but he cannot be manipulated through threats of pay cuts.
"My loyalty is to the law and my duty is to uphold the law. I reject this unilateral punitive action that amounts, in my view, to nothing more than a constructive dismissal. These actions have been done without any form of consultation."
