Samoa's construction of a new 120 berth marina is due to begin in January 2007, in preparation of the 2007 South Pacific games in Apia next year.

The project, which costs around 1.1 million US dollars, has been awarded to a New Zealand Bellingham Marine company.

Samoa's Ports Authority minister Tuisugaletaua Sofara, says the project signals another milestone in the development of Apia and a step forward in the country's fledgling tourism industry.

The new marina will be able to accommodate up to 40 meter yachts.
