The police in Samoa have been issued warned by the acting police commissioner not to talk or leak information to the media or members of the public.

The acting commissioner, Papali'i Li'o, issued the warning after media reports about the police commissioner being investigated after a car crash last Sunday morning.

The commissioner, Papali'i Lorenese Neru, was the driver of an official vehicle involved in the accident.

The acting commissioner says any member of the police could face prosecution if they leak or release any information without proper authority.

A senior police officer who did not want to be named told a local newspaper that he wants to know why the car crash was not listed in car accidents reported to the police last week-end.
