The Cook Islands Party has confirmed they've filed four electoral petitions following last month's general election.

Spokesperson George Turia says the petitions have been filed for the southern island constituencies, of Vaipae-Tautu, Amuri-Ureia, and Mauke.

He says however, while they still have to go through the legal process he's confident they have a strong case.

"At this stage we believe we do have strong grounds, and at the same time we are anticipating potential counter petitions, by our political colleagues the Democrats, and I understand they've done one already they've filed in the Avatiu constiuency."
