Papua New Guinea's Deputy Prime Minister says the government is not aware of any threat to attack the PNG consul general's office in Indonesia's Papua province.
The Post Courier reported last week that intelligence sources in both Indonesia and PNG had confirmed hearing of the threats.
The sources said Indonesian military elements were behind the threats, a planned retaliation for the killing of an Indonesian by PNG defence force officers in a cross-border incident last month.
Despite reports that the victim was a fisherman, who had been fishing illegally in PNG waters, some officials say he was given a military funeral.
But Don Polye says the government will wait until the details of the incident are verified before stating a position on the matter.
"And what we have done on the PNG side is instigate a high-level investigation into the whole issue and once the findings of the investigation are made available to the PNG government, a position will be established."
