10:35 am on 27 September 2006

Immigration directors from seventeen countries across the region are expected to attend the 10th annual Pacific Immigration Directors' Conference, or PIDC, to be held in Wellington in mid October.

The role of migration in economic and social development, identity fraud, people smuggling, human trafficking, and border security are on the agenda as part of efforts to strengthen border management in the region.

The Chair of the PIDC, Dr. Lesi Korovavala, says the conference will also discuss the future direction of the organisation, including how it can better meet the needs of its members.

He says directors will also discuss the goals of the Pacific Plan.
