Fiji's 150-million US dollar bond issue on the international market this month was oversubscribed seven times with orders totaling 1-billion US dollars.

This was despite the international credit rating agency. Standard and Poor's, giving the bonds a rating of BB MINUS.

Fiji's finance minister, Ratu Jone Kubuabola, says the success of this debut bond issue in terms of investor interest and pricing has resulted in significant savings in terms of interest to be paid for the bonds.

He says of the total bond issue, 54% was allocated to European accounts, 36% to Asian investors and 8% to offshore US investors.
