Fiji soldiers have come in for high praise at the Pacific Armies Management Seminar for senior officers from 30 Asian and Pacific countries now under way in Nadi.

The Daily Post reports that the commendation came from the commander of US troops in the Pacific, Lieutenant General John Brown.

General Brown said he had visited Fiji troops in the desert in Egypt, in Kuwait and in Iraq and during exercises all over the Asia Pacific region and was very impressed by their professionalism.

General Brown said, "When a soldier from Fiji arrives in the area where you are operating, you know a professional is on the ground."

He said Fijian troops "don't shirk away from responsibility, they don't back away from dangerous duties but smile as they take on additional tasks."

General Brown also said there have been great advances in multi-national co-operation with Fiji soldiers training side by side with US troops in Mongolia recently in one of the most advanced peacekeeping training operations ever executed.
