Three years after its relocation to the Pacific there are moves to return the World Council of Churches Pacific office to Geneva.
The Pacnews agency says Pacific church leaders claim that the move in 2003 marginalised the Pacific from other regions that remain represented at the WCC headquarters.
The president of WCC Pacific, the Reverend John Doom of French Polynesia, has voiced his concern in a letter to the general secretary, the Reverend Dr Samuel Kobia.
The Reverend Doom says not being in Geneva has resulted in the Pacific not being represented at the global level.
He says church leaders feel that a presence in Geneva will serve the Pacific better as it has links in Europe and keeps the region in touch with the world ecumenical movement.
Pacnews also reports that the presence of the WCC in the region resulted in strained relations with the Pacific Conference of Churches organisation in Suva.
