A businessman in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas wants to introduce wind and solar technology as alternative energy sources on the island.

Vic Balian, who is a former executive of CNMI Telesource, told the Saipan Tribune that he and business associates in Manila have done research on the project and are now in the process of talking to manufacturers.

He says that wind power is a feasible project, and would better withstand cyclones.

Based on the plan, Mr Balian's group would be bringing in small-size wind turbines for business establishments, but it may be 2009 when the equipment is available .
