Solomons PM critical of media over attorney general stand-off

Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, has criticised the media over its coverage of the conflict between his office and the Attorney General over the Commission of Inquiry.

In a national address - recorded on Sunday - he says the media coverage of the issue has been disappointing and has manipulated public opinion.

Mr Sogavare says since the matter is now before the courts his government will now pursue the two controversial terms of reference in court.

Meanwhile the Solomon Islands Bar Association has thrown its support behind the Attorney General.

At a Special General Meeting, held last week, the association said it regretted the proposed removal of the Attorney General for taking action in the interest of the public.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader, Fred Fono, says the national address by the Prime Minister was nothing but rhetoric.

Mr Fono says Mr Sogavare is upset because his critics have questioned his intention to continue his hand-picking of personnel he can place at whim within his administration.
