Two Pacific nations involved in inaugural Euro-Pacific rugby league competition

The inaugural Euro-Pacific rugby league competition involving teams from France, England, Samoa and Tonga will be held from October 22nd to November 12th.

Details of the tournament due to be co-hosted by England and France were confirmed by French rugby league federation president Nicolas Larret.

The event is being used by the four countries as a warm up for the 2008 World Cup in Australia.

The programme will begin with opening matches between Samoa and Tonga at Headingley in Leeds, and an October 29th clash between England and Tonga at the Stoop Stadium in Twickenham home to London Harlequins.

France come up against Tonga in Castres with the date to be confirmed with England playing Samoa in Hull on November 5th.

The final will be held at Widnes' ground.

Ten nations will contest rugby league's World Cup in the game's centenary year in October/November 2008.
