Reports from the Solomon Islands suggest the Attorney General, Primo Afeau, is to be dumped.
A disagreement between the government and the Attorney General over the Commission of Inquiry into the Honiara riots is headed for court.
The Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, says legal proceedings have begun following allegations by Mr Afeau against him and his Government.
Mr Sogavare says Mr Afeau's actions are an attempt to dissuade the government from setting up a robust inquiry on behalf of the public.
The Solomon Islands Bar Association came out in support of the Attorney General at a special meeting held to discuss his proposed removal.
A statement released by the association says it would be regrettable if he were removed for acting in the public interest.
And the association says he should not be removed to frustrate or terminate court action.
It also says any replacement should be a Solomon Island citizen rather than an expatriate.
