Fiji government extends scholarship scheme

The Fiji government's scholarship scheme has been extended to other tertiary institutions.

The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Ratu Meli Saukuru, says the extension was based on the demand for scholarship awards and the large number of eligible students.

The ministry's focus, he told the Fiji Sun, was on assistance to students at institutions that provided quality programmes at low cost.

Ratu Meli says there's obviously a need to channel state support to the development of the tertiary training sector, and sponsorship under the government's scholarship schemes is a useful opportunity.

He says the Sangam Institute of Technology School of Nursing in Labasa will also be included in the extension of scholarship awards.
